Metal Chimney and Stove Pipe

What these systems are
Not every chimney is brick. Newer homes, manufactured housing, and most fireplace inserts vent through a metal stove pipe system: insulated pipe running inside a framed chase, capped by a sheet-metal chase cover on top.
What goes wrong on them
- The chase cover rusts through and leaks into the framed chase
- Pipe sections separate or corrode at the joints
- The storm collar and flashing around the pipe fail and let water track inside
- The whole system ages out and needs replacement
What repair looks like
A chase cover swap is the common job in this county's rain: the rusted top comes off, a fitted stainless replacement goes on. Beyond that the work is resealing joints, replacing corroded sections, or swapping the whole system when the pipe is past saving.
